Race Course Updates 0

September 20th, 2011

There are two small changes to Saturdays course: as the water level in Vartry Reservoir has dropped significantly Transition 2 (the Kayak transition point) will now be on the West side of the Reservoir, this doesn’t change the course just the point at which you climb into the kayak. Also the Sugar Loaf off-road run has been extended by 500m with no significant change in climb but improved views of Powerscourt estate and the city. It will be clearly marked and marshalled on the day.

Starting waves will be published tomorrow.

It’s not always fun for your friends and family to come and stand around watching you running and cycling about the countryside at adventure races but for 53N WAR Powerscourt there is lots to keep people entertained. Here are just a few suggestions to entice them to join you on the day:

Powerscourt Waterfall

Powerscourt Waterfall

Powerscourt Gardens offer visitors a sublime blend of formal gardens, sweeping terraces, statues and ornamental lakes with secret hollows, rambling walks and over 200 variations of trees and shrubs. There are two walks you can enjoy in the Gardens – a 40 minute walk and a 1 hour walk.

The Museum of Childhood featuring Tara’s Palace is a favourite with children at Powerscourt. This beautiful 22 room palace took 20 years to build and shows extraordinary craftsmanship.

Powerscourt Waterfall is 6km from the main Estate and is home to Ireland’s highest Waterfall. It is a vast parkland with woodland walks and lots of local wildlife – you might even spot a deer or two! Families can enjoy a picnic or a barbecue in this scenic spot.

Powerscourt Garden Pavilion is filled with plants, garden furniture and great gift ideas and offers 25,000 sq. feet of pottering!

Afternoon tea at the Ritz Carlton Hotel which is located within the Powerscourt Estate.
